Just under a year ago I was tending a campfire. A stacked pile of kindling and wooden logs where within easy reach of the fire. I opted not to use a flashlight when selecting log to place on the fire.
Earlier that same evening I had cooked a meal which also required some cutting of vegetables and summer sausage. My cutlery of choice being the very first fix blade knife I had crafted.
That very night the knife was lost. Until two weeks ago, when I found it again while preparing that campsite for the upcoming season.
Yes, the remains of that faithful blade was found. I had stuck the knife in one of the logs and forgotten to resheath it. At some point that night I had thrown the log and my knife into the fire.
A redo of that incident would have found me using my trusty flashlight, to save what’s now my rusty knife.
