The Eagle has long been the emblem of Freedom to our wonderful country. Today we pause a moment to admire this majestic species.
A Historical Bird
When the United States was newly formed, our forefathers also sought a symbol to represent what our Nations values stood for.
Looking for something unique and Native to North America, the choice needed show freedom, peace, bravery, strength and spirit.
One such candidate was the Wild Turkey. While the Wild Turkey did meet some of the criteria. When compared to the Bald Eagle the Turkey paled in the area of strength, where the Eagle won.
The Enduring Eagle
The Eagle has been a familiar symbol to anyone familiar with the United States of America. Since the beginning of our Nation the Eagle Icon has been with us and is still there now.
Four of our Military branches display the Eagle in their insignia. We carry with it in our wallets and purses in the form of currency. Often the Eagle is displayed with a shield indicating protection.
Perhaps one of the most outstanding events is that the Eagle has not only flown with us in battles but it even carried us to the moon.
Once threatened by poor conservation practices the Eagle has not only made a cime back but is poised to continue to soar into the future with us.
Being Bold
If you are fortunate enough to have Eagles in your area take time today to observe this symbolic wild creature. For those who do not have these wonderful birds in your region, simply pause a moment to recognize the Eagle as a important and valued National treasure.
